The land for Sandy's Compound was acquired by the government in 1906 for public purposes. It was named after a Briton who served as the Mayor of Bhagalpur at the time. The acquisition of this piece of land, which measures approximately 307 bighas, 15 cottahs, and 14 chitaks, was documented in the Calcutta Gazette on July 18, 1906.
